We were hoping for more out of the exhibit rooms of the museum. Since it was freezing outside I decided to only do things I could walk to. Interesting but small museum, not many items to look at but I'm not surprised as many african-american items were not preserved. The route includes several stops at popular attractions and landmarks, including the historic North End and Boston Tea Party Ships. the building used to be the first exclusively african american public elementary school. There isn't much there except some photos and stories and honestly took about 10 minutes to see it all. )But you're really here for the African Meeting House. The five stars are for the African Meeting House (see separate review). Nicely maintained but not very innovative. The tour of the African Meeting House was also enlightening and I was impressed by the restoration of the building.

It was a rainy day , so we didn't do the tour but the museum , even though small, is still very interesting ! First though when I walk in to a semi dead theater, uhhhh this is potentially a scam. Built by free African American artisans, the Meeting House is the last stop on the Black Heritage Trail®. But I think the museum fails to live up to its name - it is at most the Museum of the African Meeting House and the Abiel Smith School. Black History is necessary History ! The Meeting House didn't have much in it to see but I give it 5 stars all day long. We wandered up the hill and down again until we eventually found it, and the entrance was at the back. Boston, MA
