During the exhibit’s opening weekend on Friday, January 15, and Saturday, January 16, Gretsch guitar expert and author Edward Ball conducted Gallery Talkback sessions entitled “The Gretsch Legacy” in the Museum’s Taylor Swift Education Center. After 2006, the Chet Atkins name was no longer connected to any Gibson model as the rights were returned to Gretsch (owned by Fender).
The fully hollow body build features a highly resonant solid Sitka spruce top, vintage 1959-style trestle bracing and laminated maple back and sides, leading to, as Gretsch puts it, “that classic big-body sound with incredible projection and rich, balanced tone.” Helping that tone project are two TV Jones TV Classic Filter’Trons, finished in gold along with the rest of the guitar’s hardware.
