The exhibit was in one room off to the left of the lobby and was a beautiful curation of images of modern day black women representing different energies. As it was shared to me by the tour guide Ivy, the Weeksville is one of America's first free black communities during the 19th century. On my visit, however, the Center hosted a free film workshop, put on by the Nova Frontier Film Festival - and this is where my life took a turn for the MARVELOUS. Took my students on a field trip here, and it was amazing!

Weeksville is one of the only African American historic sites in the Northeast on its original property. 2019 marks 400 years since the first captive Africans were brought t... o the U.S. from West Africa. The museum space is very nice and the actual homes from the original settlement ate in impeccable condition. I am so thankful this place exists. I can see why people that I know come here whether its for the exhibitions, tours, farmers market or special events. All rights reserved. It says it's open from 10am to 0430pm - Tue - Friday However , you can actually only see the patio and houses if you book a tour which is only 3pm. Throughout it all, the Weeksville Center Director, Marvin, was so incredibly friendly and made us all feel quite at home.
Our daughter is 4 years old. This place is a beacon for the cultural arts in the projects.

Weeksville Heritage Center is a great place to visit when you wanna remind yourself of how amazing being from Brooklyn really is.
